Yelka (Orovic) Filipovich, a long time resident of San Pedro and Mission Viejo, passed away on June 21, 2012 at the age of 75. She was born on October 14, 1936 in Croatia and moved to San Pedro in 1957 after marrying Ljubo Filipovich. They had a full life with traveling, dancing and hosting many festive gatherings in San Pedro and around the globe. Yelka and Ljubo were married for 45 years until he passed in 2001. Yelka shared her joy for life through her passion for cooking and sharing it with family and friends who nicknamed her "Palacinka" (my sweet crepe). She was preceded in death by her parents, Berta and Sime Orovic and sisters, Josica (Stane) Cvitanovic and Luviga (Ive) Cvitanovic. Yelka is survived by her 3 children: daughter, Darlene (Ante) Zuvich; son, Silvio (Laura) Filipovich and daughter, Vicky (Jeff) Forteza; 6 grandchildren: Oliver (Leanne) Zuvich, Natasha (Michael) Gameroz, Jr., Macy and Jordan Forteza and Adam and Robby Filipovich; 2 great-grandchildren, Aiden Zuvich and Michael Gameroz; niece, Vera (Rajko) Panovic in Vancouver, Canada; niece, nephews and cousins in Croatia. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Green Hills Mortuary from 4-7pm. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at 10:30am at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in San Pedro. Interment will be at Green Hills Memorial Park.
