Willie Charles Littles of Torrance, CA, passed away on Thursday, December 5th 2013 at age 68 as a result of complications related to frontotemporal dementia.
Charles was born in Linden, Alabama on April 11, 1945 to Artie B. and Mary E. Adams Little. He graduated from Linden Academy and attended Selma University in Selma, Alabama before transferring to Alabama A&M University in Huntsville where he earned his in Bachelors of Science degree in 1966. He received a Masters degree in Educational Administration from University of San Francisco.
Charles spent his life working as a teacher, school administrator, and mentor. His first teaching position was in Thomaston, Alabama before he moved to Southern California in 1969. His first teaching position in California was at Benjamin O. Davis Middle School in Compton where he met his wife, Betty Hoffmeister. They were married on June 4th, 1977.
Over the course of his career he taught at schools throughout the Compton Unified School District as both a teacher and administrator, in addition to coaching track and volleyball.
Charles Littles is survived by his two children: Olivia Erickson of Seattle, WA and Matthew Littles of Lomita, CA He is also survived by his granddaughter, Iva Erickson.
The funeral service will be held at Green Hills Memorial Chapel (27501 S Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275) on December 13th at 1:00, followed by a reception at Rolling Hills Covenant Church. A viewing at 12:30 will precede the service.
