Willie Dunn

Ms. Willie Bernice Dunn, was born August 11, 1932 in Garland, Texas to the union of Johnny Young and Florence Young. While still a young child, the family moved to Texarkana, Texas and she attended the public schools of Bowie County, Texas.

Willie decided to move to California at the age of eighteen. She found her first job at the Roosevelt Hotel and then later accepted her second job at the Burbank Airport as part of the cabin crew.

Willie was united in marriage to Louie G. Dunn Sr, in 1959.

She eventually began working at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Northridge, California and stayed there for 30 years. She worked her way up in the food service department eventually becoming a Dietetic Supervisor. She had a successful career at the hospital and retired at the age of 55.

She loved to travel and was able to take several cruises with her children after she retired.

She took special joy in her granddaughter. She loved to dote on her and used any excuse to spoil her with gifts.

Willie loved to cook, especially during the holidays. In her later years she enjoyed watching cooking shows and keeping up with current events and politics.

Willie had a beautiful personality and a generous spirit.

She departed this life Friday, August 2, 2019 at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Harbor City, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Jimmy Lee Dunn, her sister Odessa Davis, her brother Ray (RC) Young and her brother William Young.

She is survived by her husband Louie Gene Dunn Sr, her daughter Willie Naomi Dunn, her daughter Anita (Thomas) Cowling, her son Louie Gene Dunn Jr., her son Roy L Atkins, and her granddaughter Taylor Cowling, and a host of other family and friends.
