William "Bill" Sinclair

May 16, 1935 — July 11, 2018

William (Bill) Sinclair passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 11, 2018 at the age of 83 in Los Angeles. He was a devoted husband of almost sixty-two years, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was a Christian and member of First United Methodist Church of Denton, Texas.

His father was an independent geologist and the family settled in Tulsa, OK where he was raised. He played basketball in high school and early college years attending Colorado University where he met his lifelong love, Joyce Tighe. Bill and Joyce were married from 1956 until her death in February 2018.

Bill earned a Master of Science degree in Geological Engineering from Colorado School of Mines. From 1960 to 1995 he worked for Mobil Oil as a geologist in a variety of roles in Port Lavaca, Oklahoma City, Anchorage, Denver, New York, New Orleans, and Dallas. From 1983 to 2017, he and Joyce resided in Denton, Texas and in 2017 relocated to Salt Lake City to be closer to family. Bill enjoyed sailing, flying, handball, jogging, golfing, and backpacking in the Wind Rivers with his sons and friends. He was a considerate, generous, and even-tempered man, who was steady and thoughtful under pressure. Bill was a loyal friend to many.

He is survived by his daughter Susan Sinclair Gomez and husband Richard, grandchildren Sara Sinclair Gomez and Connor Sinclair Gomez, son John and wife Pamela, son Stephen and wife Janet, granddaughter Emily Sinclair, sister JoAnn Suppes, and nephew George Suppes and wife Sarah. Preceded in death by his parents, Francis and William Sinclair and wife, Joyce Tighe Sinclair.

Services will be held Sunday, July 22, 2018 at 10:00 am at Green Hills Memorial Chapel, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. Internment at Mount Olivet Cemetary in Salt Lake City, Utah.
