William Nakano

October 23, 1930 — March 3, 2012

William "Bill" Akio Nakano, 81, died unexpectedly on March 3, 2012.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 16th from 5-6 p.m. at the Gardena Buddhist Church, 1517 W 166th Street in Gardena, 90247.
Bill was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on October 23rd, 1930 to Minoru and Sugano Nakano. Bill Married Janann Fae Martinson on June 11, 1962 in Los Angeles, CA. Bill attended high school at Mid Pacific Institute in Honolulu Hawaii and received a Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology . Bill was a Korean War veteran where he reached the rank of sergeant. Bill spent 35 years in the satellite industry with TRW, Hughes Aircraft Company and COMSAT. He retired in 1985. Bill lived in San Pedro for the last 45 years of his life. Bill was incredibly active and vibrant throughout his life and even more so in retirement. Right up until his death he was an avid golfer and enjoyed hiking, writing poetry, traveling and gardening.
Bill is survived by his spouse Janann, his 3 children Lauren Nakano (husband Michael Markley); Dawn Nakano (husband Andrew Sohn); Steven Nakano (wife Silvia). Bill had 6 grandchildren: Ryan (13), Olivia (11), David (11), Morgan (9), Ella (6) and Grace (5). Bill had 4 brothers and 3 sisters. He is survived by 3 siblings, Tomiko Takeshita, James Nakano and Joyce Nakano. In death, he has joined siblings Sumiko Akashi, Jitsuo Nakano, Bert Nakano and Henry Nakano.
