William Harold McKaig, age 75, passed away at Torrance Memorial Hospital on Saturday, May 17, 2025 due to cancer and long-standing health issues.
Bill, as he was affectionately known, spent most of his life living in Southern California. He had a great love of the ocean, so SoCal was a perfect home. He enjoyed skateboarding and surfing in his youth, which carried through to his adult life. Bill was also a musician and played the drums. Bill was very knowledgeable about rock and roll music. He spent many hours listening to his favorite bands.
Bill attended South High School in Torrance California, graduating in 1968. He completed his Bachelor degree at Cal State University Long Beach attending night school while working full time. Bill was employed by Hughes Aircraft/Boeing his entire career. After retiring, Bill enjoyed 11 years of retirement.
Bill’s passing has left a void in the hearts of family, friends and many others whose lives were touched by him. One of his most endearing traits, that many would remember him by, was an acute insight into people, along with his quick wit and a dry sense of humor, of which he shared with his father.
Bill was born in 1950 in Syracuse, New York to George and Christine McKaig. He moved to California with his parents and his sister Sharron as an infant.
Bill is survived by Patti, his wife and loving companion who is blessed with 20 years of memories. He is also survived by his three children, Richard McKaig (Dilyce), Jeff Mckaig, and Melissa Fowler (Brandon), and seven grandchildren; Gracie, Evie, and Lily McKaig, Tristan and Matthew McKaig and Reese and Owen Fowler. Bill is also survived by his siblings, Ann Sharron Parke (Robert), Bruce McKaig (Alayne) and his nieces and nephews, Kristi Ikemori (Ian), Greg Parke and Alex Parke, Natalie and Amanda McKaig, Keili and Keira Ikemori and his former wife, Bonnie.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025 from 4 PM to 8 PM at Green Hills Mortuary, 27501 S. Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Martyr Church at 1940 S. Prospect Avenue, Redondo Beach, 90277 with reception immediately following at St Lawrence Church Hall.
Interment held later that afternoon at Green Hills Cemetery.
