William Magee

William Magee, of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA passed away on July 19, 2016. He was born in Bayonne, NJ in 1938 to Vera and William Magee Sr. After high school he served in the U.S. Army. William (Bill) then worked in insurance and Sinclair Oil getting his B.S. from St. Peter's College (NJ) in 1967. Later Bill moved to Los Angeles with the Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO) becoming Vice President and Controller in 1981. In 1987, he became CFO and Director for the ARCO Chemical Company, taking it public and then retiring in 1989. In 1994, he was Special Assistant to the Superintendent of LA Unified School District. Bill thoroughly enjoyed family, travel and contributing to a variety of non-profit entities. His other roles included Advisory Boards for Cal State University, Los Angeles and United Way as well as Chairman of the Los Angeles International Film Exposition (AFI FEST). Bill lived a full life and is survived by his wife, Kay Magee; 3 children, Christina Sutherland, Tom and Rob Magee; and 2 sisters, Betty Buckley and Diane Duhig and 6 grandchildren. He was a loving and generous husband, father, brother and man of goodwill to all. He always strived to do the right thing and leave the world better than he found it – we will miss him dearly. A memorial service will be held in his memory on Thursday, July 28, 12:00 p.m. at the Neighborhood Church, 415 Paseo del Mar in Palos Verdes Estates, CA.
