William "Bill" Denton Lang Jr. passed away surrounded by his loving family on December 24, 2014 at his home in Palos Verdes Estates, CA at the age of 84. He was a beloved husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, USMC veteran, volunteer fireman, and businessman.
Born February 1, 1930 in New York City, to Sabrah and William Denton Lang Sr., Bill entered the Marine Corps at the early age of 17 to serve his country from 1947 to 1951. The Corps inspired his strong work ethic and spirituality which stayed with him throughout his life. After four years of service he was honorably discharged and married his sweetheart, Marion Andren.
During their early years of marriage, Bill worked to support his family while attending university in the evenings. He held several supervisory positions before going to work at Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC) where he became a Partner. While working for Coopers & Lybrand, Bill started and grew the New York Metro data processing consulting practice in information technology. He later moved from the East Coast to California and settled with his family in Palos Verdes Estates. While in the LA area, Bill held several executive positions including: President of Ticor Realty Tax Services and Senior Vice President of Great American Insurance.
As a devoted family man, Bill enjoyed the company of his loved ones and was a profound inspiration to them. His most notable coinage of the phrase "working people are happy people" is instilled in daily usage for those in his family. Even during his retirement, he was always active and enjoyed travelling with his wife and children. His executive presence and leadership garnered over his career could be seen not only in his professional life, but in all aspects of his personal life as well. His loved ones trusted him as an advisor and steadfast source of support in all aspects.
Bill is survived by his wife Marion; his brother Roger Lang; his children John Lang, Barbara DeMar, Jeanne Paschall, and Nancy Lang; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Lang.
