William Mark Esser
1955 – 2015

William Mark Esser, known as Mark to family and friends, went to be with Lord after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, his mother, brother, sister, three nephews and five nieces. Mark was touched by all the prayers and support he received from family, friends, and church. Thank you all. His pain is gone and he is at peace.
Mark Esser was a life-long resident of the South Bay Area. As the oldest of three children, he kept his family busy with school projects, baseball, Indian Guides, Boy Scouts, confirmation classes etc. At an early age, Mark learned to take everything apart including the handlebars of this tricycle to his mother's dismay. Fortunately, it didn't take him long to put things back together. His mother never had to change the batteries in a flashlight again.
His close net family spent many fun times with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. This of course included holidays but also vacations together. These excursions usually included fishing and camping. Mark's most memorable family trip was aboard a house boat on the Sacramento Delta. He remembers driving the boat when the adults were a little tipsy. His parents remember Mark fixing the engine when they were stranded in the middle of the river. Fun times!
Mark met his wife in church choir. At first she thought, "Who is this annoying boy behind me?" Using all his charm, he soon won her heart. On their first date, they saw Star Wars. A tradition they kept with each movie. Together they attended and earned their Bachelorettes from California State University of Long Beach. Mark was a Big Brother to his wife's sorority and helped with the annual Toilet Races! The couple wed their senior year. Even though the couple did not have children of their own, they have been an important part of their nieces and nephews' lives.
One of Mark's science projects was to build an electrical generator. Electrical engineering seemed to be in his blood from an early age. With the invention of the personal computer, Mark began his computer business in a friend's garage. With the help of his brother, Markon Computer Science Inc. has been a fixture in Lomita for over 30 years. This is where Mark's brilliance and creativity found an outlet to shine. Computers became Mark's lifelong work and legacy.
Mark was community minded. He had been active in the Lomita Chamber of Commerce, the Torrance and San Pedro Elks, Coast Guard Reserves, and Kiwanis. Mark regularly cooked at the Veteran's Breakfast at the Elks' lodge and had been in leadership positions. Mark had many interests like model trains which he set up in his backyard, boats, home improvement projects, cooking, and a yellow VW dune buggy. He loved science fiction and was a history buff. His life was always busy, but he had time he loved to just "shoot the breeze" with visitors to his office or with his wonderful neighbors in his garage at home. Mark will be missed by all who knew him.
"The steps of a man are established by the Lord; and He delights in his way. When he falls, he shall not be hurled headlong; because the Lord is the One who holds his hand." Psalms 37:23-24
