William Thomas Brandlin

August 30, 1921 — January 20, 2018

William “Bill” Brandlin, formerly of Rancho Palos Verdes, died on January 20th at the age of 96. Bill was born in northern Illinois on August 30, 1921 to his parents, Joseph and Mabel Brandlin. He was one of four boys and remained close to his brothers: John Brandlin of Los Angeles, Paul Brandlin of Wisconsin and Bob Brandlin of El Segundo.

Bill grew up on a farm and later attended the University of Illinois for his undergraduate studies. He was part of the university’s ROTC program and while he was in college, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He served with the Marines through the end of World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945 as a 1st lieutenant.

After the Marines, Bill moved to California and attended Southwestern Law School. He graduated in 1950 and practiced law for many years in downtown Los Angeles. He moved his practice years later to Torrance to be closer to home. As an attorney, Bill was highly regarded by his colleagues, clients and all that knew him. After Bill retired, he and his wife Nancy moved to Surprise, Arizona.

Bill loved to sail when he had the time, but his #1 priority was always his family. He was a devoted husband and father and cherished his time with his family. Bill and his wife Nancy were married for 53 years and lived in Rancho Palos Verdes with their family. They have 9 children, 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

A funeral mass for Bill will be celebrated at St. John Fisher, Rancho Palos Verdes, at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 29, 2018. Burial will follow at a later time at Green Hills Memorial Park.
