Walter was born June 27th, 1934, in Los Angeles, California and passed away November 9th, 2019. in Torrance, California. He leaves behind his wife of 57 years Elizabeth (Swann) Norwood, three sons: David, Robert and Christian, his sister Sylvia and 5 grandchildren. A lifelong Angeleno, Walter served in the United States Navy, 1957-1961. Walter attended Holy Name of Jesus Elementary School, Loyola High and Loyola University. He earned his MBA at Pepperdine University, and a Ph.D, in Behavioral Science in Management and Urban Development. Career experiences and service include Los Angeles County Probation Department; Supervision and Management, Ford Motor Company; Consultant, Watts Labor Community Action Committee, Director, Affirmative Action and Title IX Program, Los Angeles Unified School District; Director, Southern California Rapid Transit District Equal Opportunity Program.
Walter’s service to his community was extensive serving on the boards of various groups such as South Central Los Angeles Regional Center, Los Angeles Regional Family Council, United Way, Department of Consumer Affairs, National Association of Women in Construction, The Gifted Children’s Association of Los Angeles, Board of Directors for the 23rd Olympiad for the Los Angeles Games in 1984. Walter had a passion for sports especially basketball and golf, enjoyed water skiing and could roller skate. He will be missed by a host of family and friends.
