Walter Oren Lindley

Walter Lindley, a long-time South Bay resident and more recently of Rancho Mirage, California, went to be with the Lord on August 25, 2013 at the age of 92. Born in Beardstown, Illinois on March 19, 1921 to Oren and Mary Lindley, Walter moved with his family to Redondo Beach in 1930. He attended Redondo Union High School, graduating with the class of 1939 and served in the Air Force, being honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. He attended USC and was a lifelong Trojan football fan. Walter began his career selling cabinets and eventually became a property contractor/developer in the South Bay until his gradual retirement in the late 70's when he moved to the desert to enjoy playing golf, his favorite pastime. In 1948 Walt met and married his wife of 65 years, Ann Wood, and they had three children, Mark (Marilyn) Lindley, Dan (Marlene) Lindley, and Lynnette (John) Kooker. Walter is survived by his devoted wife, three loving children, six adored grandchildren, Brett (Natalie) Lindley, Ryan Lindley, John (Stacy) Kooker, Rosalynn Kooker, Megan Lindley, Randi DeNicola, and two great grandsons, Silas Kooker and Thomas Lindley. Walter is preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Lindley and Bertha Cook and brothers Albert, Harry and Bob Lindley, and survived by one sister, Audria Lindley. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. A Memorial Service will be held on August 30, 2013 at 9:00 A.M. at the Green Hills Memorial Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes with burial to follow.
