Wallace Hideo Wachi Sr, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on April 3, 2025. Born on December 20, 1942, in the beautiful city of Honolulu, Wallace carried the warmth and aloha of his Hawaiian roots with him throughout his life.
Even in his youth, his interests and desire to work with his hands were evident. Along with his father and brother Richard they built their family home in Palolo Valley which still stands today. And he was always fishing with buddies using either nets, spear guns or rods.
Wallace graduated from McKinley High School in 1960, and completed auto and aircraft mechanic schools before making a decision that would have him leave the islands.
Wallace enlisted in the Air Force in 1963 and reported for basic training in Wichita Falls, Texas. Once complete he was assigned to the 851st Strategic Missile Squadron in Yuba County, CA at Beale AFB as a Titan Missile mechanic. He served with dedication until his honorable discharge from active duty in 1967.
That same year, he married the love of his life, Diane Aloha Ohumukini, in Marysville, CA. In the years that followed they moved to Los Angeles, eventually settling in Carson in 1972 where they raised their three children: Wallace Jr, Ronald-Allen (Woody), and Lisa-Gaye.
When he wasn’t working, Wallace was always picking up new hobbies and crafts. He wrenched on cars, worked leather, dabbled in woodwork, created stained glass, constructed ipu hekes, sewed apparel for Lisa’s hula dancing, made feather lei hatbands, and wrapped fishing rods. He loved to keep busy and make things.
Wallace is survived by his beloved wife, his three children and eight grandchildren: Taryn, Kalyn, Jacob, Madeleine, Makoa, Kainoa, Paxton and Stella.
His family invites all who knew him to join in celebrating his life at Green Hills Memorial Park, where stories will be shared, laughter will be abundant, and Wallace's spirit will surely be felt.
