Viviane “Vina” Mirville-Powell was born on June 28th, 1975 to Celsus and Anne Mirville in Grande Rivière Gros Islet, St. Lucia W.I. In her early years in St. Lucia, she enjoyed exploring the outdoors of her beautiful country, participating in sports, singing, and especially dancing. With her infectious laugh and outgoing personality, many naturally attracted to her everywhere she went.
At 22, she seemed to discover her true calling. She learned that she wanted to help others, so she decided to become a nurse. She applied to the Arthur Lewis School of Nursing in St. Lucia, and later graduated as a Registered Nurse. She quickly flourished as a nurse at Victoria Hospital St. Lucia, and when the opportunity arose for her to work abroad in Torrance, CA, she took it.
In Torrance, she quickly adapted to her new environment. She worked many days and many nights to provide for her young son, Matteo. Through sleepless nights, blood, sweat, and tears, she still managed to achieve another one of her goals, and gain her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing at Grand Canyon University. However, her ambition was too big to stop there.
In 2017, she decided to pursue a Master’s Degree in Nursing and in 2019, she mastered it and graduated from California State University, Long Beach with her Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner degree. In 2022, she followed her heart and after 20 years, she resigned from her position as Lead Nurse at Torrance Memorial, and took a position as a Nurse Practitioner under Dr. Omar Deen at Torrance Memorial and Kindred Hospitals.
In her 25 years as a healthcare professional, spanning from St. Lucia to Torrance, she shared her bright light with many colleagues and patients that left a lasting impression. The work ethic, love, and care that she provided along with her expertise, allowed for many people to meet and fall in love with the amazing person that Viviane was.
Sadly, on October 6, 2023 her bright light was unexpectedly turned off on this Earth. Her passing was an enormous loss for everyone who has ever had the privilege to meet her. She was full of life. Her energy was so contagious and enough to light up any room she walked in. Her voice and her laughter is unforgettable and will ring in our memory forever.
She loved what she did and she loved helping others in every way possible. Even in her busiest of times, she never failed to check in on her family and friends to see how they were doing. She especially loved her family and made sure everyone knew it, whether it was through pictures on her phone and/or social media posts. Viviane never stirred far from who she was or where she came from. She was the most genuine person and truly one in a million.
She is survived by her husband Ovacho, her two sons Matteo and Micah, her parents Celsus and Anne, her sisters Denna, Lucina, Delores, and Makevia, her brother Billy, her nephews Darnell, Joannah, and Brad, her nieces Stevel and Pretty, her grandnieces Eva and Emma, her niece-in-law Cinthia, her brother-in-law Steve, her uncle Joachim, and many, many other relatives and friends whom she touched with her bright light, especially those at Torrance Memorial, who felt more like family when she was so far from home.
May her soul rest in perfect peace. We will miss her dearly.
John 11:25-26: Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me, shall never die.
