Virginia "Ginger" Harrison

Lifetime San Pedro resident, Virginia Harrison, passed away peacefully in her home after a short illness. Ginger attended Dana Jr. High and San Pedro High Schools. She met the love of her life, Walter Harrison, who was the family's ardent paper boy. After completing his service in the Navy, Walter became a longshoreman. Virginia raised two sons, James "Tracy" and Jeffry, and worked as an accountant/bookkeeper.
When she retired, Ginger volunteered for the ILWU Ladies Auxiliary. One of her favorite projects was sending care packages to servicemen & women in Iraq and Afghanistan. Ginger and "Wonderful Walt" were avid golfers and took many trips to Hawaii with John and Jody Harrison to play golf. She had a wide circle of lifelong friends. She enjoyed foreign travel, camping, card games, Las Vegas, concerts, plays and Dodger games. She loved children, animals and cowboy movies. Ginger was proud of her Irish heritage (the Burke's) and had a deep and abiding love for her family.
She was preceded in death by her youngest son, Tracy, in 1993 along with her husband, Walter and her beloved granddaughter, Trista, both in 2001. Her eldest son, Jeffry passed in 2013. Through all her losses, Ginger maintained her faith in God and often said she would someday see her loved ones in heaven. Ginger found comfort and happiness in her family and in keeping active. She will be deeply missed by her brother-in-law, John Harrison, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Services will be held at the Green Hills Chapel on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 9:00 am. A graveside service will follow.
