Virginia Brownell

Brownell, Virginia Elaine, 72 year resident of San Pedro, CA passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the age of 92. She was born in Larimore, North Dakota on September 13, 1922 to Frank and Hazel (Anderson) Taylor. She married Robert L. Brownell Sr. on January 31st 1942 in Las Vegas, Nevada and moved to San Pedro shortly after. With her mother, she owned and operated Hazel Taylor's Dress Shop in downtown San Pedro for 35 years. Later, she was an administrator for the Palos Verdes Retirement Villa on Western and Summerland, after that she worked for Hi-Shear Corporation in Torrance. She was very active in community affairs having served as President of the former Women's Division of the San Pedro Chamber of Commerce and the San Pedro Business and Professional Women's Organization. In addition, she was a longtime member of the "Las Angelinas" – the hospitality and community service organization coordinated by the Office of the Mayor of Los Angeles. She was always on the go and known as the "Go-Go Girl" by her closest friends. She traveled the world and always had a party to go to, and loved every minute of it. Virginia is predeceased by her husband Robert Sr., infant son Thomas and is survived by her three children: Robert Jr., Michael, and William "Bill", her four grandchildren: Brian, Mark, Amanda, and William, and her six great-grandchildren: Matthew, Marina, Hannah, Kayla, Chloe, and Lilly. Services will be held at Green Hills Memorial Chapel on Saturday, March 28th, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. 27501 Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275.
