Victoria Kam Ling Hamasaki, age 86 of Torrance, peacefully passed away Friday, September 16, 2011. She was a native from Hawaii, and while living there she was an active member in many various community activities. .She especially enjoyed those evenings when she and Richard went out for ball room dancing. She also danced and taught the hula, and you would frequently find her helping prepare meals for the various church and community functions. She was active in her church. Her favorite activity was being with family and friends.
She came to the Mainland in the 1950's. They settled in Torrance. She worked at The Broadway as the manager of the Alterations Department and retired after twenty-five years. While raising four children, she worked, and enjoyed many social activities which revolved around family and friends. Victoria also enjoyed singing, and was complemented many times on her beautiful voice.
She had a special gift as a seamstress. You would find her frequently sewing, or collecting various materials for a sewing project to come. Many family members and friends depended on her for gowns and dresses, because they always looked exquisite and flawless. She took pride in her work, and you could always tell by the end product. She took on other projects as well, like crocheting and embroidery, which to no ones surprise; she was able to master with impeccable style and beauty. She frequently made designs of the purple Cattleya Orchids, because it was her favorite flower.
In her later years, Victoria traveled with her family. She enjoyed Europe, Asia, the Middle East, the Arctic and the Caribbean. She enjoyed sewing classes with her friends, and would look forward to the weekly lunch at the mall. She enjoyed reading and collecting recipes. When she was relaxing you would frequently find her handwriting all her favorite recipes, and writing special notes to herself on the top of each one.
Victoria was born in Hawaii on February 26, 1925. She married Richard at age 20, and had four children. She will be remembered for her quiet and modest strength, and admired for her resilience. She will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her children: Carolyn (Bruce) Willett, Clayton (Laurie) Hamasaki, Lani Henson, Dexter Hamasaki; 5 grandchilren and 5 great grandchildren; siblings; Edward (Patsy) Pung, Joseph Pung, Ernest(Dawn) Pung, Florence (Joseph) Zolik; sister-in-law, Fusako Unten, brother-in-law, Keisho(Sally) Hamasaki. Victoria was proceeded in death by her parents and her husband, Richard.
