Tom passed away February 14, 2012 at home in Rolling Hills, CA at age 79. He was born to Irish immigrants, Nora Kearns and Martin Gilligan, and grew up in Throggs Neck, Bronx, NY. He served during the Korean War as a USAF radar tech. He earned a BSEE at RPI and an MSEE at NYU. Tom worked as an electrical engineer for Bell Labs, NJ. Then he was General Manager of Systems Products at Electronic Memories & Magnetics Corp. Later, he was design consultant to Ampex Corp. During his career, he was granted 12 US Patents for core memories and circuit design. Preceded in death by his parents and brothers James and Marty. Tom is survived by 4 children, Colleen Gilligan, Tim Gilligan, Luna Gilligan, and Diane G. Bennett; brothers, John and Des; 4 grandchildren; and 2 step-grandchildren; and his devoted companion, Gerda Stefanoff.
