Highlights of Life
The Journey Home
Thelma M. Cline was born in Carthage, Arkansas on September 23, 1949 to the parentage of Edward Hill and Odie Mae Stevens. She was the youngest of three siblings. Her parents and her sister Georgia Ann Hill preceded her in death.
Thelma accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Malvern, Arkansas where her family worshipped and praised God. She received her secular education in Malvern.
Thelma's ambitions in life brought her to Southern California in the late 1960's where she immediately began working for Hughes Aircraft/Raytheon. She had a great professional reputation and many of her life-long friendships were made there. She retired after thirty-five years of dedicated service.
True love only comes once in a lifetime and Thelma found her true love, her soul mate in Herman Cline. They were married on August 23, 1997 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their marriage was a match made in heaven and a testimony of enduring love and commitment.
Thelma strongly believed in family. Her three sons Troy Mendenhall, Jr. and Stacey Rich and Lance Rich (who were from her previous marriage to Glendyn Rich) as well as her grandchildren were the loves of her life. She made it her life's work to teach, guide and protect them.
In 2007 she united with Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorial leadership of Reverend Leo R. Thomas. She loved Mt. Sinai and devoted much of her time to serving the Lord. She attended Bible Study and Sunday School on a regular basis. She was also a faithful member of the Deaconess Board, the Missionary Society, the Health and Wellness Ministry and the Audio-Visual Ministry.
Thelma will always be remembered as "The Lovely Lady with a Pure Heart of Gold" because she was always helping those in need. Her kindness and her giving spirit touched the lives and homes of many.
Throughout Thelma's illness, her faith and trust in God never wavered for she had settled that account long ago. On Thursday, October 13, 2011, God called Thelma home to His mansion on high. She peacefully answered the call at the Little Company of Mary Transitional Center in Torrance, CA. She leaves to cherish many precious and beautiful memories to her devoted husband Herman Cline, her brother Richard Hill (husband of Jackie) of Inglewood, CA, Troy Mendenhall of Lynwood, CA, Stacey Rich of Lynwood, CA, Lance Rich (husband of Vanessa) of San Pedro, CA, Herman Cline, Jr. of Portland, OR, Hans Cline of Irvine, CA, Julie Guring (wife of Brad) of Mission Viejo, CA, daughter Carol Ann Cline-Coats of Portland, OR; grandchildren Anaija Mendenhall, Stacey Rich, Jr., Lance Rich, Jr., Cassidy Rich, Brooklyn Coats, Lim Coats and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, extended family, dear friends and neighbors
