Gasaway. Tharon Lea, a 64 year resident of Manhattan Beach, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2013 in Fountain Valley.
Born Tharon Lea Waters on July 11, 1922 in Muskogee, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Ethel Wigley and Claude Hurst Waters. She was married for nearly 66 years to Ovando Gasaway, S/Sgt Army Airforce WWII Veteran from Big Heart, Oklahoma.
Sam worked in the restaurant business as a waitress, hostess and owner. She loved visiting with her niece, Courtney, tending to her cats as well as the visiting ones from the neighborhood, feeding the squirrels and hummingbirds, chatting on the phone, cooking, walking to the grocery store and reading massive quantities of books.
Tharon is survived by her sister, Bettye Sweeten of Laguna Woods; niece and her husband, Sue and Phil Cohen of Monarch Beach; and nieces and nephews, Katharine, Madeline, Michelle, Kenneth, Stephanie and Robert Waters. She was preceded in death by parents, Ethel Wigley and Claude Hurst Waters; her husband, Van Gasaway; brother, Kenneth Claude Waters; and niece, Courtney Kelley Cohen.
A graveside service will be held at Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 South Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at 10:00 am.
