Teruko Inouye

April 10, 1927 — May 12, 2020

Teruko "Terrie" Hazama Inouye, age 93 of Gardena, CA, died peacefully on May 12, 2020 after a brief stay at Silverado Beach Cities in Redondo Beach, CA.

Terrie was born in Bell, CA on April 10, 1927 to Tome (Inoue) and Katsusaburo Hazama. She and her family resided in the Los Angeles area. After high school, she attended Mount San Antonio College where she played basketball.

She married Ben Inouye on June 8, 1952. After briefly living in Los Angeles, they eventually settled in Gardena to raise a family. In 1954, she gave birth to their first daughter, Sharon. A son, Stan, was born in 1957. He passed away from a congenital heart disease the following year. Stephanie was born in 1967. The family moved to Lancaster in 1975. She worked as the Registrar at Antelope Valley High School for 8 years. After retirement, she and Ben returned to their hometown of Gardena.

In addition to being a homemaker (for a time) and a working mom, she enjoyed going to casinos with Ben while playing the slot machines and receiving complimentary rooms and meals. She was a huge Dodgers fan. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, collecting baseball cards and beanie babies, following the stock market, watching hummingbirds, doing Sudoku puzzles and playing Scrabble. All of those things, however, paled in comparison to her biggest passion in life, her family - being mom to her 3 children, nana to her only grandchild and dedicated wife to her husband.

Survivors include her husband, Ben; daughters Sharon (Vince) Louie of Manhattan Beach, Stephanie (Daniel) Kraft of Brandon, SD; granddaughter, Sabrina Kraft; and sister, Misao Okino of Los Angeles. She was preceded in death by her son, her parents, her brother Eddie Hazama, and sisters Harriet Kawaguchi and Frances Enomoto.

There will be no memorial service. Her ashes will be interred at Green Hill's Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the UCLA Children's Heart Center in memory of Stan.
