Terrell C. Woods

May 1, 1962 — June 13, 2023

Terrell Carnelis Woods was born on May 1, 1962, to Gelene Welch-Woods and Burton Leon Woods at Tuskegee Institute Hospital in Macon County, Alabama. On his mother’s side, Terrell was the grandson of Lewis (Governor) Lazarus Welch and Frances Elizabeth Meeks.

His Christian life was initiated at an early age when he was baptized at Ascension Lutheran Church in Los Angeles, California. His religious commitment, love, and diligence was lifelong. As a member of Ascension Church, he served as an acolyte, and later in life volunteered his professional services in support of the church.

Terrell had many professional and personal pursuits. Terrell had a passion for sports and successfully linked that interest to a career as a freelance digital photographer.

Terrell graduated from Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance, California in 1980. He subsequently graduated from the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado with a bachelor’s degree and went on to earn a master’s degree from the USC Marshall School of Business, in Los Angeles, California.

Terrell had an infectious smile, and a quick wit that warmed the hearts of all within his gaze. He was a handsome young man without conceit and appreciated the beauty of the world captured through the lens of his camera. He enjoyed German chocolate cake, playing tennis, and watching football. Terrell was a devoted son, and his mother was the absolute love of his life. He cared for her personally in the last years of his life.

On Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at 6:30 p.m. Terrell Carnelis Woods made his transition from this world. Terrell leaves behind to cherish him, with wonderful memories of his time on earth, his mother, Gelene Welch-Woods, a host of other family members, and his many friends and co-workers. He was preceded in death by his father, Burton Leon Woods.

Terrell would say with a smile:

“I was thankful for my wonderful family and friends,
that I thought of with joy and appreciation.
If I had known you for many years or a few,
in some way you had a special part in shaping my life.”
