Sylvia Martins

Sylvia Martins, 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 21, 2015. Born in Chicago, Illinois in 1928 to Vincent and Vinka Fucak, Sylvia moved to San Pedro with her family more than 65 years ago. Like many San Pedrans, she worked at Starkist Canneries for more than 35 years, during which time she met and married John Martins, a Merchant Marine. They made their home in San Pedro and remained married until John's passing in 2013. Sylvia was also preceded in death by her sister, Vera Yurak, earlier this year. She is survived by nieces, Melanie Ziegler and Lana Cvitanovich; great-nieces, Natalie and Melissa Cvitanovich; great-nephews, Nicholas and Alexander Ziegler; as well as her dearly loved Marich cousins. Brandie and Kimo Vierra, along with other numerous nieces and nephews living in Hawaii, were also a large part of her extended family. Although her family is saddened by her passing, we will always remember her love and sweetness, and be secure in the knowledge that she is reunited with her beloved husband, Johnny. Committal/Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, June 30th at 2:30 pm at Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 S. Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, Ca 90275.
