Sylvester Jerome Sims (aka Eddie), born March 17, 1940; passed into eternity, June 27, 2016. He was the son of Frank and Ella Means Sims (both deceased) and the brother of Margie Matthews (deceased). Eddie was known for his love for learning, and playing jokes on others. He enjoyed jazz music whether listening to it or playing his saxophone, and playing chess with others and on the computer. Eddie enlisted in the US Army after completing his first year at Howard University, and served as both a Paratrooper, and Water Purification Specialist. After his tour of duty, he returned to Howard University and completed a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. He later earned his Master's Degree in Engineering from the University of Washington. Eddie was one of the first black Engineers to work for the Department of Energy, and spent 25 years traveling the world and providing oversight for the D.O.E on various nuclear research projects.
Eddie dedicated himself to finding sustainable energy solutions for our society and providing service to the D.O.E. until his health no longer allowed him to work. Over the years, Eddie's health continued to deteriorate as he suffered with MS and other ailments. From his marriage to Dorothy Sims (later divorced) he had one daughter, Germaine. During the last two years he was blessed to live in California with his daughter who cared for him to the very end.
Even though Eddie became bedridden and dependent on others, he became very grateful to the Lord Jesus and others in spite of his condition. Eddie leaves his beloved daughter, Germaine Sims; two sisters Frances Sims McCraw and Pamela Sims Black, brother in-law, Lonnie Black, one surviving aunt, Gwendolyn Means, a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends to cherish his memory. Thanks be to God for blessing us with the life of Eddie!
