On December 25, 2019 our mother, Suzuyo Nishikawa passed away at Kei Ai nursing home in Gardena Ca. She was born, Suzuyo Sakai on October 13, 1926 to Miyaju Sakai and Kame Shimazaki of Sasebo Japan. She finished her education and planned to become a secretary. At the age of 23, she met then married Bob Wataru Nishikawa. They had 3 children Kiyoshi (Joyce Yamashita) born in Nagasaki Japan, Jun (Susan Yoshioka) born in Yokohama Japan and Amy (Sam Molina) born in Gardena Ca. She had 2 granddaughters, Stacie (Gabriel Garcia), Hollie (Armen Aghajani) and 3 grandsons, Randy, Michael (Mylinh Vuong), Robert (Melissa Hiller), 5 great granddaughters, Adilynn, Hailey, Coco, Averly, Sosi, 3 great grandsons, Dylan, Niko and Daniel.
Before her husband passed away, they both loved to travel. This included such countries as South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, of course Japan. In her mid 80’s she was very active at the Gardena Buddhist Church, with everything from making sushi, to helping in the kitchen during festivals in the early morning hours. She also enjoyed classical Japanese dancing, karaoke, playing the koto and activities with other organizations and friends. She moved to Huntington Beach where Kiyoshi and Joyce took care of her till it became obvious that more assistance would be needed, at which time she entered Keiro Assisted Living in Boyle Heights. When she became more physically dependent she was moved to Keiro in Lincoln Heights. She was then moved to her beloved Gardena hoping that she would be more comfortable near her home.
