Susan La Gro of Layton, Utah, went home to be with Jesus on November 4, 2024. She was a devoted Catholic and enjoyed a life-long passion for crafts and quilting.
She was born to Arthur and Amelia Fitch on May 7, 1939, in Toledo, Ohio. She was a cheerleader at Woodward High School. She met the love of her life, Ron La Gro, at Newbury Park. Ron and Suzi married three years later, on August 10, 1957.
Ron and Suzi had their first child in Ohio before moving to Southern California in 1959 where they had four more children.
Suzi worked at JC Penney’s selling material – a job she loved. She also served as the secretary at Our Lady of Guadalupe school before attending nursing school at El Camino College and working as a psychiatric nurse in Torrance, California.
Suzi enjoyed entering contests and winning prizes (contesting), traveling, quilting, the Dodgers, and was a life-long learner. She was always up for an adventure including winning a ride on the Goodyear blimp and being contestants on Let’s Make a Deal, winning a bedroom set that was used for years thereafter.
She and Ron were known to take in stray animals such as dogs, cats, chickens, squirrels, and Pete the Peacock, many of them becoming permanent family members.
Suzi was sad to leave behind many good friends in California in 2021, but made many new friends at Apple Village in Utah.
Suzi is survived by her five children Shelly Sanders (Randy), Ron (Leslea), Chris Wilson (Chuck), Greg (Lorraine), and Jeff (Lory); eleven grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ron La Gro, and her parents Arthur and Amy Fitch.
The family offers a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Apple Village Assisted Living Center and Inspiration Hospice who provided comfort and care in her final days.
Ron and Sue were never apart from each other for very long and it’s comforting to know they’ve been reunited once more.
A Memorial Mass will be held in California at a future date yet to be determined.
