Socorro "Cookie" Zardeneta

September 25, 1921 — April 13, 2019

On April 13, 2019 at 9:00 pm, Socorro passed away peacefully in her San Pedro residence surrounded by her immediate family. She was born on September 25, 1921 in Miami, Arizona. She was the youngest of 3 children of Teodoro and Luz Gutierrez of Jalisco and Guanajuato, Mexico. She was preceded in death by her husband Romulo of 41 years. Socorro is survived by her 3 children Ronaldo “Ron” Zardeneta, Albert “Al” Zardeneta and Cynthia “Cindy” Coker, 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Socorro was raised in Jerome, AZ and upon her marriage to Romulo, Christmas 1941, then moved to San Pedro, CA. As a lifelong resident of “Pedro”, she started off her early years as a member of a volley-tennis team in Banning Park, Wilmington. After the passing of Romulo, she became an active member of the Better Half Women’s Club at Holy Trinity Church. She loved club outings, attended numerous live musicals and the movies on Sunday. She had a green thumb in the garden and was an outstanding cook. She was especially known for her great Christmas tamales, which could never be duplicated to this day. Socorro cherished all her family members and because of her outgoing personality, she had acquired numerous long time friends. If asked what she loved most in life, it would be her love and devotion to her Creator and Savior our Lord Jesus Christ. Memorial service for Socorro Zardenta will be Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 11:30 am at Green Hills Memorial Park Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes.
