Silas H. Henard, Jr. age 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at Cornerstone Village South in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Mr. Henard was a native of Pomona, Tennessee and a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico for 30 years. He lived in Lafayette Louisiana for the last 4 years. Mr. Henard was a veteran of military service and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Central Europe and Rhineland. As a truck driver with an anti-aircraft unit, he drove a 2 1/2 ton truck towing a 40mm gun protecting ground forces from attacks by enemy aircraft. He worked in a motor pool for some time as a mechanic's helper adjusting brakes, lubricating chassis, repairing ignitions and general mechanical work relative to a motor pool.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved sweet, red wine. He also had a passion for automobiles and driving.
He was preceded in death by his second wife, Ann C. Henard; his first wife and mother of his child Ruth M. Henard; a daughter, Janet Gayle Henard; Father, Silas H. Henard, Sr.; mother, Minerva Bell Henard; sister, Eloise Farris and brother, John D. Henard.
Survivors include his son, Dave Henard and his spouse Barbara of Lafayette; three grandchildren, David Henard II and his spouse Rene', of Fenton, Michigan, Buffy Domingue and her spouse Kelly of Lafayette, LA and Tiffany Simmons of Salt Lake City, Utah; six great grandchildren, Sydney and Lauren Domingue, Jacob and Austin Henard, Justine Whitt and Angelina Tomaszewski; and one great great grandson, Brailan Whitt.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 14, 2015 at 1:00pm in Green Hills Memorial Chapel, Rancho Palos Verdes, California with interment to follow in Green Hills Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Dave Henard, David Henard II, Jacob Henard, Austin Henard and Kelly Domingue.
