Shirley Hsiao Yuan Wang Chang

November 8, 1942 — July 8, 2020

On Wednesday, July 8, 2020, Shirley Hsiao Yuan Wang Chang passed away in her home, at the age of 77, due to heart failure.

Shirley was born on November 8, 1942 in Szechuan, China to Zhengchao Wang and Shiying Yan. Shirley emigrated to Taiwan as a young girl and grew up to graduate from National Chengchi University before moving out to the United States to begin graduate studies at Oklahoma State University. Before graduating, Shirley married and moved to Chicago. From Chicago, they had a short stint in Wisconsin, then San Francisco and ultimately, residing long term in Los Angeles, CA. Shirley was a devoted wife and mother. She taught adult school, was a travel agent and an insurance agent, as well as a realtor, later receiving her broker’s license.

Shirley was a longtime member of a Monday afternoon bowling league at Gable House Bowl in Torrance. She had a great fondness for travel and has travelled all over the world from Antarctica to North Korea and everywhere in between. She delighted in meeting new people during her travels that often developed into lifelong friendships as well as maintaining friendships from back in college. She especially loved snorkeling to see the myriad rainbows of the sea. She was excitedly proud to be able to share the magnificent wonders of the African safari with her granddaughters last summer. Her only love second to family was the game of mahjong.

Shirley Hsiao Yuan Wang Chang is survived by her two daughters Anita Chang Hsieh and Belinda Tung; two granddaughters Hope Hsieh and Dillon Tung, as well as her brother Frank Wang and sister Jing Jing Chen.
