Shirley A. Crawford

Shirley was born in Newton, Iowa to John (Jack) and Cynthia Cox and moved to Torrance one year later. She grew up on Amapola Ave, attended Fern Ave Elementary and was a graduate of Torrance High School with the Class of 1947 and was still proud to call herself a Tartar. She married her High School Sweetheart, Jim Crawford and they raised their three children, Kerry, Doug and David in Torrance .
Shirley worked alongside Jim when they opened the first Golf Driving Range in Torrance (Torrance Fairway) and again when Jim opened his State Farm Insurance Office. She was very creative in all that she did and was an avid Artist and loved to crochet. She enjoyed Antique Collecting and had the knack for creativity in all things. She loved spending time with her family and their family vacations to the Colorado River. Later, Jim & Shirley traveled the world extensively. Shirley loved the City of Torrance, Torrance High School and the UCLA Bruins
Shirley passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Jim, her son David, her grandson Eric Fadeley and her grandson-in-law Orlando Martinez. She is survived by her daughter Kerry Nobis (Chuck), son Doug Crawford (Cheryl), grandchildren Julie Fadeley, Stacy Martinez, Kelly Crawford, Wendy Rafael (David) and great grandchildren, Haley Crawford, Reese, Dene & Eli Martinez, and Abby & Delia Rafael.
There will be a memorial service for Shirley on Tuesday, January 30th at 12:00 at the First Christian Church of Torrance, 2930 El Dorado Avenue. A reception will follow immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the First Christian Church Capital Campaign or St Jude Children's Hospital (stjude.org)
