It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Isabel Baccaro. Shirley, daughter to James and Elizabeth Wright who precedes her in death, grew up in Los Angeles. She was married and lived in the San Fernando Valley and then moved to San Pedro after her second daughter was born. Shirley prided herself in being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Shirley was married to her high school sweetheart, Ambrose Martin Baccaro and they celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary this past September.
Shirley was a wonderful homemaker who cooked, crafted, sewed and kept a beautiful home for her family. She hosted several holidays and parties for friends and family. She was a Girl Scout Leader for several years. She also loved to travel and enjoyed planning all of the details of visiting new places. One of her favorite places was Scotland as she was very proud of her Scottish heritage.
Shirley and her husband were proud owners of the Alpha Omega Gift Shop on Western Avenue and 25th Street in San Pedro for three years They had many regular customers that would shop for Hallmark cards, gifts, and stationery supplies there.
When her own children started college, she worked as a librarian. She worked at Bandini Street Elementary School and later moved to Meyler Street Elementary School. As an avid reader, she loved being with kids and encouraging them to read.
Shirley was a devout Christian and Deacon in her beloved First Presbyterian Church. She also worked with children to make crafts at Vacation Bible School for several summers. Her faith in Jesus was extremely important to her and she passed that down to her children.
