Shinayo "Shiny" Hora Williamson (1941-2024) was born in Long Beach, California, on September 11, 1941 to Chiyoko Yamada Hora and "Raymond" Hisanori Hora. As a baby Shinayo and her family were interned in Jerome, Arkansas, with other Japanese-Americans in 1942. When the family eventually returned to California, Shinayo, her brother Masao, and her sister Hisayo, grew up living on Harbor Ave in Long Beach, California. Shinayo graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School in 1960 and attended Cal State Long Beach where she studied to become an elementary school teacher. Shinayo was briefly married to Jim Williamson in 1976, and then spent decades teaching hundreds of children in Long Beach United School District. Shinayo loved traveling to Las Vegas, regularly bowled and golfed, was a rabid California Angels baseball fan (and booster), and had many friends through the Red Hats. She doted on her nephews and extended family and took great care of her mother Chiyoko. Shinayo spent her later years living at Ivy Park in Cerritos, California, where she became a beloved member of the community with her generous and warm spirit. Shinayo is survived by her three nephews: Merrell, Matthew, and Samuel. A visitation will be held on August 1, 2024 between10am-12pm at The Mortuary at Green Hills in the Villetta Suite, followed by interment at Green Hills Memorial Park in Ranchos Palos Verdes, where she will be laid to rest at 12:30 at the Devotion Lawn.
