Sarah Maydelle Micek passed away peacefully in Portland, OR on June 14, 2018. She was born on October 25, 1930 in McGregor, TX to Emil and Alma Abel. She graduated from Crawford High School in 1947 and North Texas State University in 1951. Sarah married her college sweetheart Charles (Charley) Micek in 1954 in Allentown, PA. They moved to Southern California in 1957, were residents of Rancho Palos Verdes and attended St. John Fisher Church for over 50 years. They enjoyed weekly breakfast outings with special long-time neighbors which started out as the ‘Feet to Eat Club’ in the ‘70s. They were thankful for the strong community support they received over the years. She and Charley were married for 59 years before his passing in 2013. Sarah taught math at Calle Mayor Middle School in Torrance, CA for 37 years. After retiring, she volunteered at Taper Avenue School in San Pedro, and was a math tutor for kids needing a little extra help. A love for travel took her to all 50 states and 22 countries. Sarah will be lovingly remembered for her kind heart, warm smile, and her dedication to family. Sarah is survived by her son, Chris (Helen) Micek, San Pedro, CA; daughter, Jokay (Creighton) Kearns, Portland, OR; son-in-law, Ken (Suzy) Kargol, Shell Beach, CA and grandchildrens Kyle Micek, Alicia Kearns Heater, David Kearns, Stephen Kearns, Monica Kearns, Andrew Kargol, Nathan Kargol and Julianna Kargol; brothers, Raymond Abel and Bob (Jane) Abel, Killeen, TX. She was preceded in death by husband Charles in 2013, daughter Chardelle Kargol in 2001 and grandson Cole Micek in 2018.
Services will be held at Green Hills Memorial Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA on July 6, 2018 at 2:00 PM. Interment immediately following at Green Hills Memorial Park. Memorial gifts may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association in lieu of flowers.
