Santina died peacefully, surrounded by family in her home on July 16, 2023 at the age of 95. Sandy was born in Fontechiari, Italy in 1927 to Alessandro and Teresa Di Carlo. Sandy immigrated to the United States in 1934 and lived in San Pedro, California for the rest of her life. She was a San Pedro High School graduate as well as an accomplished violinist. In 1947 she married Crescenzo (Richard) Iacono who preceded her in death after 63 years of marriage. Sandy is survived by her five devoted children; Vince (Debbie), Marie Rubio (Ken), Alex, Teresa Monroy (Mark), and Rita Gold (Mitch); 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four sister-in-laws; Pauline Iacono, Delphina Iacono, Ruby Di Carlo, and Nilza Marta Di Carlo, and many nieces and nephews to whom she held close to her heart. Sandy was preceded in death by her brothers Louie and Rico Di Carlo.
Our beloved Sandy had many talents that she shared with everyone she knew. She was an amazing seamstress and baker, gave free haircuts to family members and friends, and was an all around phenomenal homemaker. She founded the "Stitch and Bitch Crochet Club" that met in her home on Sunday afternoons. Sandy also worked for 20 years in various public school cafeterias throughout San Pedro and the LA Unified School District. Sandy was known for her generous spirit and the beautiful afghans she crocheted and gifted to many people. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
