Sandy Pierry

Sandra Jean Pierry (Holtz), 78, of Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Our beloved Sandy, wife, mother and grandmother, passed peacefully in her sleep on November 25, 2015 at home. She is survived by her husband, Thomas, her daughter, Shawn, son, Tom, and grandchildren, Amber and Daniel. Sandy was born January 6, 1937 to Charles and Margaret Holtz in Hammond, Indiana. She graduated from Kokomo High School in 1954 before attending Purdue University where she obtained a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts with a French Major and English Minor with a teaching option. While at Purdue she met Thomas Pierry and they wed on September 6, 1958. Sandy and Tom both went on to teach at Los Angeles Unified School District. Sandy then helped support Tom while he attended USC law school. Sandy was a voracious reader and had an artistic flair in everything she did; from macrame, crocheting and jewelry design to French cooking. She and Tom loved vacationing in France and Tom had her travel diaries typed and bound in a volume he titled "The Odyssey of Sandy Pierry's Journals.". Although Alzheimer's robbed her of her great intellect and eventually led to her passing, it could not take away her kind, gentle, loving nature which was with her to the end.
