Ruth Joyce Wey
March 7, 1936 - August 16, 2024

Ruth Wey was born and raised in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon) Ruth boarded a Greyhound bus for California and relocated to San Diego. While working there at General Atomic Ruth was introduced to her future husband Walt by a mutual friend. They married April 20, 1963, settled in the Los Angeles area, and enjoyed a joyous life together. They have three children: Mike (wife Tracy), Tom, and Patti.

Walt and Ruth raised their children and traveled the world together after Walt retired in 1992. Ruth was active in PTA, and worked as an educational aid/teacher's assistant in the Palos Verdes Unified School District. Her home was a haven for neighborhood kids. She was active in church and served as a deacon at St. Peter's By the Sea, where she also trained and served as a Stephens Minister. Ruth loved playing bridge with her bridge group and walking with the "Dolphin walkers" on Torrance Beach. Ruth was a cancer survivor and supported the Reluctant Sisterhood. She was known for decorating her home for every holiday and having a generous spirit. She was quick to volunteer or offer help wherever it was needed. She was also usually the first person to jump on a dance floor and would outlast folks half her age. She loved people and had an innate ability to make friends with most everyone she'd meet.

Ruth passed away on August 16, 2024 at the age of 88. She will be remembered for her contagious laugh and love of life.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth's memory can be made to L. A. Food Bank, or any cancer charity of your choice.
