Ruth L. Matthews

Ruth passed away peacefully in the comfort of her board and care home, Angel Care, in Torrance, California, on Friday, June 1, 2012. She was born on November 9, 1916, in Blackstone, Massachusetts, to John and Helen Garneau. She was married to Bert Matthews in 1958 in Rhode Island, and moved to Orchard Park, New York, soon after. They got transferred through Mobil Oil to Torrance, California, in 1965, where Bert was Maintenance Manager, and she has lived in Torrance ever since. She was blessed to have lived 95 wonderful years! She was preceded in death by Bert in 1998, the love of her life and husband of 40 years, and her stepson Scott. She is survived by her daughter Kim and son-in-law Brad Heath, stepson Kurt Matthews, granddaughters Danielle and Courtney Heath and grandson Ryan Matthews. Ruth always loved a good party with family and friends, and she always wanted to steal that "perfect" ornament at Kim's annual ornament party! She also loved playing bingo, whether with her ladies group at Good Shepherd, where she's been a faithful member for 47 years, or with her granddaughters' Girl Scout Troops! Ruth was loved by many people and will be greatly missed. There will be a graveside service at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, June 8th, 2012, at the interment site at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, and then at 4:00 p.m., a Celebration of Ruth's life will be held at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 21100 Victor Street, Torrance, California.
