Roy “Raul” Roland Jumaoas passed away on September 25, 2024, at the age of 65 in Long Beach, California. He was born in Cebu City, Philippines on April 7, 1959, as the eldest son of Carolina and Deogracias Jumao-as Jr.
Roy was raised by his grandparents, Felisa and Deogracias Jumao-as Sr., and as the first grandson, he was considered the most favorite grandchild. During his early childhood, he spent the early mornings with his grandfather tending the goat and cow and watering the plants. In the summertime, he enjoyed going to the beach and catching fish with his cousins.
He attended the University of San Carlos (All Boys) High School and College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy in 1980 in pursuit of the service of humanity. In 1983, he continued this service and enlisted in the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman Petty Officer 3rd Class serving for 8 years and 11 months. After his military service, he continued to serve others by becoming a nurse at California Hospital Medical Center for over 20 years.
He enjoyed attending family get-togethers and celebrations, especially the annual Sinulog festival in Cebu City, Philippines, which honored the Santo Niño (Child Jesus). As a devout Catholic, Roy often returned to his hometown to attend this celebration and attended mass every Sunday in person or virtually.
Roy was known to be the most generous person among close friends and family. He was always willing to help others without any questions asked. He was well respected and loved by all who knew him. He is survived by his only daughter, Robyann Jumaoas, who will remember him as a constant, steady figure in her life who taught her how to be tough.
To honor Roy’s memory, a visitation will be held at Green Hills Memorial Chapel, 27501 S Western Ave, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275, on Thursday, October 17, from 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm (5:30 PM Rosary). A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 18, at 9:00 am followed by internment.
The family will host lunch at China Buffet, 525 Pacific Coast Hwy G, Torrance, CA 90505, immediately following the graveside service.
