Rosanna Holmes was born on August 3, 1936 to the late Fred Booker, Sr. and Rosia Lee Davis, in Winn Parish, Louisiana. She departed this earthly life on December 10, 2022 at 2:05 a.m. at Torrance Memorial Hospital after being diagnosed with a dissected aorta.
She accepted Christ at an early age at Oak Ridge Baptist Church and remained a loyal member until she moved to California.
On October 2, 1959 she married her high school sweetheart, Lee Arthur Holmes who preceded her in death on June 23, 2014.
She was an educator and graduate of Grambling State College; Roosevelt Elementary school in Pomona, California and for Los Angeles Unified School District from 1971 until her husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease; and she then took on the role as caregiver. She was on track to complete her master’s degree from the University of La Verne in 1988; but, never completed because she cared for her husband until his death.
Rosanna is known for her cooking, school plays, and her unwavering faith in the power of God. She wanted to move to New York to become an actress like Eartha Kitt and buy a Jaguar with leopard skin seats.
She leaves to mourn her son Yuel Michael Holmes, her daughter Sheila Holmes, and her grandson Eugene Love. She leaves behind her sister Rosia Mae Collins of Arlington, Texas and a host of nieces, nephews, and long-time neighbors on Tillman Ave. who were her extended family; as well as friends. She also leaves behind her caregivers, Trina Childs and Javonn Dolly, who loved her and spent numerous days and hours keeping her company.
