Rosa Margarita Prothero

June 18, 1922 — November 13, 2017

Our beautiful Rosa Margarita Calfa Prothero passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on November 13th, 2017. She was born on June 18th, 1922 in San Luis, Argentina. In 1948 Rosa sailed from Buenos Aires to visit her sister in England. The stars were aligned as aboard the ship she met Second Officer Edwin Prothero, the man who would become the love of her life. They were married four months later. Rosa lived in England for eleven years while Edwin was at sea (continuing his career, becoming Captain with the British Merchant Navy). They settled back in Buenos Aires, Argentina with their daughter Diana in 1960 where Rosa started to plan and pursue her dream of immigrating to the United States. Four years later they were off to England for a few months, finally arriving in New York on the Queen Elizabeth I with Diana and sister Ilda, and brother in law Emilio in June 1964, continuing on by train to Los Angeles. Rosa and Edwin settled in Rancho Palos Verdes in 1973.

Rosa started working in Argentina at an early age, eventually holding various positions in Embassies in London, British Consulate General in Los Angeles, opened an Italian Deli, "Villa Rosi" with Ilda and Emilio. When she retired she attended college and received an AA Degree in Fine Arts where she discovered a deep love for painting. She not only enjoyed this hobby for the rest of her life but became President of the San Pedro Art Association as well as being the recipient of many awards for her work. Nevertheless her favorite pastime was spending time with her family and enjoying Sundays at Diana and Luigi's home (he was the son she never had) surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rosa is survived by her daughter Diana (Luigi), grandson Franco, granddaughter Tanya (Ray), great-grandchildren Ryan, Enzo, Bella, Maya and Layla, as well as her sister Ilda and many nieces and nephews.

Rosa and Edwin were married for sixty one years, she will now be laid to rest with her beloved husband where they will continue their afterlife together.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017, 2:00 pm at the Green Hills Memorial Chapel with burial to follow in Green Hills Memorial Park. Visitation, Villetta Suite, December 8, 2017, from 3-8pm.
