Ron lost a long battle of prostate cancer in his home in San Pedro. He was born in Carson, CA, graduated from Banning Union High School and then returned to the Harbor area where he attended Harbor Jr. College. He was a long time resident of San Pedro, loyal member of ILWU Local 63 Marine Clerks Union and an active member of the Angels Gate Tug Crew and the Big Bear Antique Auto Club.
Predeceased were his parents, Raymond and Doris Tobin and brother, Gary. He was the beloved husband of Betty Mae Baker Tobin and father to Ronalee Thompson (Scott), Cheryl Burnett (Jim Anderson), Michael (Savannah), Dennis (Cecelia), and Janis Gertsch. He was known as Boompa to Christopher, Monika, Sarah, Jessica, Justin, Jason, Jaclyn Tobin, and Craig Gertsch, and to baby Evelyn Tobin. He leaves his in-laws, Trudy and Rich Hildebrand, and Henry and Julie Mellusi and their families. He will be forever missed.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 3pm in the Green Hills Chapel, Rancho Palos Verdes.
