Robert Dean Such, aka “Bob Such”, of Rancho Palos Verdes, went to be with the Lord on October 6, 2023, in Torrance, CA after a stroke changed his life in November 2022. He was born in Alliance, OH on January 28, 1935. He moved to Torrance with his family when he was 11 and attended Torrance Elementary School, where he met his life long friend, Jim Farrar. He went on to attend Torrance High School where he met and married Carolyn E. Longacre, his first wife, in 1954. He graduated from Torrance High School in 1953 and served in the Army at Fort Ord and Fort Carson. He then was hired by the Torrance Police Department in 1957 and enjoyed a long career and friendships with so many special fellow officers. Bob and Carolyn had 3 daughters, Bobbi Lynn, Robyn and Kristen. Carolyn preceded him in death in 1971 after a short battle with breast cancer. He then married his second wife, Florence E. Parker in 1971 and became a father to her daughter, Lisa, and 2 sons, Patrick and Michael. Florence preceded him in death in 2022 after a prolonged battle with dementia.
Bob retired from TPD in 1988 and has kept in frequent touch with his many friends and colleagues from the force. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Lomita. He enjoyed time with his family and friends and his love of animals was apparent to anybody who met him, especially the love of his dog “Squeak”. He loved socializing with all, especially anybody with a dog. He could be seen daily walking Squeak in the neighborhood, where he was fondly called “ The Mayor”.
Bob leaves behind his 6 children, Bobbi Lynn (Bob) Gander, Robyn (Gavin) Smith, Kristen (Bill) Edmonds, Lisa (Larry) Basile, Patrick (Lisa) Such, and Michael Such. He also leaves 17 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to gather, honor, and remember Bob at his home in Rancho Palos Verdes after the graveside service.
