Robert Hartry

Robert “Bob" Hartry, born in San Pedro on December 11, 1936, passed away on December 10, 2020. He is predeceased by his parents, Howard and Thelma Hartry. Bob attended San Pedro High School graduating in 1955. He then attended Cal State Long Beach where he achieved a Bachelor of Science degree in business. While there, he was a charter member of the Cal State Long Beach Rowing Team. He continued his love for rowing and sailing after graduation and participated in the Transpac Race from Los Angeles to Honolulu, Hawaii in 1959.

Bob worked alongside his dad at the family’s customhouse brokerage business, Howard Hartry, Inc. in the Port of Los Angeles. They also started Marine Wholesale & Warehouse Co. servicing commercial ships, cruise lines and airlines. In support of his businesses, he was a longstanding member of the Chamber of Commerce, and a proud small business employer.

Bob was a committed Christian and his faith in Jesus was reflected through kindness and generosity towards everyone around him.

Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margareta; his children, Robert (and wife Jennifer), and Eric; and granddaughter, Nova.
