In Loving Memory of Robert “Bob” Garstein.
Bob Garstein, age 82, of Torrance, passed away peacefully on December 1st, 2023. Born on September 18th, 1941, in Long Branch, New Jersey, he was the beloved son of Walter and Sylvia Garstein, and younger brother to Richard “Dick” Garstein.
Bob attended Pratt College in New York where he studied to be an architect. After graduation, he started his architecture career working for Conkin & Rossant in New York City. Bob worked for Hood Development in El Paso, Texas, then made his way to Tucson, Arizona and eventually fulfilled a lifelong dream of moving to California. Bob worked for Neil Stanton Palmer before starting his fist business, Academy Design. Bob eventually founded his own company, RGA, Inc (Robert Garstein Architect) and was a practicing architect for over 50 years. Many buildings in the South Bay were designed by Bob, the self-proclaimed “Architect to The Stars”.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Fran Garstein and his children, Kimberly Garstein and Kristen Collins, and his one and only granddaughter, Harper Lillian Sawicki. We miss Bob’s wit, charm, laugh and endless funny stories.
A celebration of life will be hosted at the Garstein Family home in Torrance, California, the place where Bob loved to entertain. The event will take place on September 7th, 2024, starting at 4 pm. All are welcome to attend. Please come enjoy music, food and share your best stories of the one and only Bob Garstein.
