Robert D. Barron passed away at the age of 83 on March 12, 2012. He was born in San Diego, CA on March 20, 1928 to Roy Findley and Mildred Irene Barron. At age 5, he moved to San Pedro and later graduated from San Pedro High School in June of 1945. Robert joined the US Navy in 1946 as an Aviation Machinist Mate and attended training in Jacksonville, FL and Memphis, TN. He was stationed in Las Cruces, NM and Point Mugu, CA and earned the World War II Victory Medal before leaving active Navy service and joining the US Navy Reserve in 1948. He was promoted to Petty Officer Second Class in 1951 before receiving an Honorable Discharge from the US Navy in 1956. After leaving Active Navy service, Robert completed an A&E mechanic course at Northrup Aero Institute in Hawthorne, CA and took a job with Acme Aircraft as an airplane mechanic in Torrance, CA. In 1950 he earned his Commercial Pilot License and on June 21, 1951 he started working with Trans World Airlines (TWA) as an aircraft mechanic. He later attended the TWA Flight Engineer School in Kansas City, MO and then started flying as a Flight Engineer for TWA. He ended up living in New York, NY flying international flights before moving back to Kansas City, MO where he would meet his future wife, Lois Burk, a TWA flight attendant. They were married on October 22, 1955 in Kansas City, MO and in June of 1956 they moved into their current house in San Pedro, CA, where they had three children, Cheryl, Gary and Gregg. On April 1, 1990 Robert retired from TWA after 39 years of distinguish service. During his retirement years, Robert enjoyed traveling, going on ship cruises and spending time with his 3 children, 10 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. Robert is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lois; daughter, Cheryl; Sons, Gary and Gregg; grandchildren, Jessica, Jonathan, Jason, Ian, Shane, Lacey, Lauren, Whitney, Melanie, and Jody; and great-grandchildren, Elena and Emmalee. Services will be held at Green Hills Mortuary in Rancho Palos Verdes at 9:00 am on Friday, March 16, 2012. Public viewing will be held between 5:00 and 8:00 pm on Thursday March 15, 2012.
