Richard Walker Thompson, 92, passed away suddenly on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at his home. He was the oldest of three siblings born to his parents Roy and Ora Thompson. He is survived by his brother Havelock and was preceded in death by his sister Lois.
Richard was born in Inglewood, CA and grew up in Glendale, CA. He joined the army air corps during WWII, where he was a B-29 flight navigator. He attended USC, where he received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, with a second bachelor’s degree in astronomy. His career included work as a geophysicist for Standard Oil Company in North Dakota; manager at Cal Tech High Voltage Lab; and aerospace work, including Lockheed and FAA for the remainder of his career.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife Marthe less than a year ago. He will be greatly missed by his children, Alan, Doug, and Diane; and his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
