Richard "Squeak" Sumich

Richard Sumich, beloved husband, brother, uncle, and cousin passed away recently at the age of 74. He was surrounded by his loved ones at the time of his death and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was the second of three children born to Sam and Dorothy Sumich and was a lifelong San Pedran. Richard, known as Squeak to many people, went to Leland Street Elementary School, Dapplegray Junior High, and then on to Fermin Lasuen High School.
Squeak was a good surfer, and a member of The Pladsmen Youth Club. After high school, he worked as a merchant marine. He was then drafted into the army and served in an artillery unit during the Vietnam War. After his time in the army, he became a tool and die maker. He was an expert in this field. His award-winning molds were used in military defense programs and space shuttle missions. His hobbies included surfing, golfing, and spending time with his wife Mary, who always kept him fashionably dressed. In his later years, Richard became a highly skilled wood worker, taking classes at community colleges to develop this skill which would become his greatest hobby. He loved making wood furniture pieces and took great care and pride in this passion of his.
Richard is survived by his wife, Mary, his brother Bobby Sumich (Donna), sister Diane Rosemark (Edward), sister-in-law Joanne Honeycutt, nieces and nephews Kimberly Lisica (Anthony), Michael Sumich (Melissa), Roxanne Pesic (Kevin), Peter Romero (Karolina), many great nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.
Funeral services are Friday, December 30, 2022 11:30am at Green Hills Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
