illness. He was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 38 yrs, Oramae (Gather) Craig and his daughter, Brenda (Craig) Feist of Tacoma WA. His brother Dave (Bobbie) Salzman of St. Helens, OR and sister Shirlee (Bill) Kudlemeyer of Eugene, OR and his dear and close family friend, Norma Beeler of Torrance, CA, and his loving neighbors of over 50 years that were always more like family.
He was born in Hollywood, CA but lived his early years in lllinois before the family moved to Torrance, CA in 1944, then becoming a lifelong resident. Always a hard worker, in his early years he worked various odd jobs including bowling alley pin setter, pumping gas, ranch-hand to working alongside his dad for Republic Van lines. After he returned from serving in the army, he worked at Harvey Aluminum where he worked his way up to lead supervisor and after over 30 years accepted early retirement when the company became Martin Marietta. He was drafted into the Army, serving as a medic during the Korean War. He was proud to have served his country and had some interesting stories to tell, but his time in the service did not define who he was, it was just a part of his life's story. Richard loved the simple life he had created for himself and enjoyed every day to the fullest. When asked how he was, he always responded "Fantastic!" He was a family man at heart, he loved his friends and neighbors and was a friend to all animals. He was a kind and gentle soul who supported various charities and he always helped anyone in need. The world was always brighter, every time he smiled. He will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him.
