Richard C. "Dick" Mills, the son of Lindsay and Martha Mills, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2012 at the age of 90. He was born on February 24, 1922 in Pomona, California where he was raised as a second generation Southern Californian. He served four years of active duty as an officer in the Army during World War II and 36 years in active Air Force Reserve units in Southern California where he had many interesting assignments as Communications Squadron Commander at Fresno Air Terminal during the Cuban Crisis. Richard continued his career as the District Office Manager for the Automobile Club of Southern California for 38 years. He was also involved in various Community Service Groups including the Chaired Citizens Advisory Traffic Committees, the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce, the Century City Kiwanis Club, the Palos Verdes Symphonic Band and served as Port Ambassador of the Port of Long Beach. Richard is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Irene Mills who passed away in May of 2006. He will be greatly missed by his loving daughters, Anne and husband Dale Edwards, Cherie and husband David Schenck; grandchildren, Danielle Martin, Alexandra Schenck and Ian Schenck; and great-grandchildren, Chloe Martin and Madelyn Martin. A Memorial Service for Richard will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Green Hills Memorial Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes, Ca. immediately followed by an interment site service.
