Born, May 11, 1934 in Long Beach and raised in San Pedro, the Rancho Palos Verdes resident passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on May 18, 2015. A military veteran who served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, Empie was a career firefighter for the City of Los Angeles. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Evelyn Berg Empie; his children, Rick Empie, and Nic Empie and wife, Kim; his stepchildren, Stephen Mette and Chris Mette Cramer, and her husband Ron; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Empie was an avid fisherman and target shooter, gun and sword collector, amateur woodworker and auto mechanic, and a lover of classic automobiles. Dick and Evie loved to travel, visiting more than 30 countries on 5 continents. Empie waited patiently every month for the arrival of the print catalog from Harbor Freight Tools.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, 2:00pm in Green Hills Memorial Park.
